Avita Health System Recognizes Monarch Award Recipients

Avita Health System is proud to recognize three employees with the Monarch Award, a recognition program that honors employees outside of nursing who consistently go above and beyond to make a difference for patients, families, coworkers, and our communities. Monarch Award recipients demonstrate the qualities of being Motivating, Optimistic, Nurturing, Adaptable, Respectful, Caring, and Helpful through their daily work.

Krista Collins, Radiology, Galion Hospital

Krista was recognized for her extraordinary dedication to a patient facing serious health concerns and significant financial challenges. After learning the patient would face substantial out-of-pocket costs for needed breast imaging and a biopsy, Krista took the initiative to connect the patient with available resources, complete necessary paperwork, and advocate on the patient’s behalf throughout the process. Her efforts helped ensure the patient could receive critical testing and continue her care without unnecessary delays or financial burden.

Kirsten Tanner, Dr. Justin Eagleston’s Office, Ontario

Kirsten was nominated by a mother who had spent months searching for care for her daughter and repeatedly encountered barriers to obtaining an appointment. While other offices informed the family that no appointments were available for several months, Kirsten took the time to listen, understand the situation, and explore options that could help. She later called the family back with an appointment available within the week. Because of her efforts, the patient was able to receive treatment and begin her journey toward better health. The nominator noted that what stood out most was not only what Kirsten did, but how deeply she cared.

Stephanie Kitzler, Radiology, Bucyrus Hospital

Stephanie received two separate nominations for the same patient experience. A patient undergoing her first mammogram described feeling nervous and uncertain about the procedure. Through clear communication, kindness, and reassurance, Stephanie helped put the patient at ease and explained what to expect. When additional imaging and a breast ultrasound were needed, Stephanie continued to provide compassionate care, helping the patient feel informed and supported during a stressful and emotional time. Both the patient and her husband were so impacted by the experience that they independently submitted nominations recognizing the difference Stephanie made.

Employees may be nominated for the Monarch Award by patients, families, and colleagues by filling out a form online or at one of the three Avita hospital locations. The award recipients are anonymously chosen by a committee of Avita employees and awarded at celebrations attended by the honoree’s colleagues.
