Avita Health System Celebrates Grand Opening of Bucyrus Orthopedic and Therapy Center

Bucyrus, OH – Avita Health System celebrated the grand opening of its new Bucyrus Orthopedic and Therapy Center during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 28. The new facility, located adjacent to Avita Bucyrus Hospital, officially opened to patients on October 26.

The new 15,000-square-foot center brings orthopedic care, sports medicine, physical therapy, occupational health, and adult speech therapy together under one roof, creating a more convenient and coordinated experience for patients.

“Years ago, we began carefully purchasing properties around Bucyrus Hospital so we could create a dedicated, state‑of‑the‑art facility right next to the hospital campus. Our goal was to bring orthopedic care, sports medicine, and physical therapy together in one convenient location, enhancing healthcare for the community and continuing Avita’s strong commitment to Bucyrus and the surrounding areas,” said Jerry Morasko, President and CEO of Avita Health System.

The facility offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, including the offices of Dr. John Diehl and Dr. Robert Ogg
  • Physical and Occupational Therapy
  • Adult Speech Therapy
  • Avita WorkWell Occupational Health Services

By housing these services in one location, patients can access care, treatment, and rehabilitation in one place while moving seamlessly from diagnosis through recovery.

The center also serves local employers through Avita WorkWell Occupational Health, which partners with more than 2,500 businesses. Services include pre-employment evaluations, drug screenings, immunizations, injury treatment, functional capacity evaluations, and ergonomic assessments.

Advanced rehabilitation technology within the facility supports patient recovery and safety. Features include an aquatic therapy pool designed for low-impact rehabilitation and the Solo Step system, which allows patients to safely practice walking, balance, and mobility throughout their recovery journey.

The new center reflects Avita’s ongoing commitment to expanding healthcare services and investing in the communities it serves. As patients’ needs continue to grow, the facility provides additional capacity and resources to support high-quality orthopedic, rehabilitation, occupational health, and speech therapy services close to home. Avita Health System’s $15 million investment in Bucyrus underscores its mission to improve local health and well-being. This project was heavily boosted by the community, with the Avita Health Foundation contributing over $1 million in philanthropic gifts and grants. According to Chief Development Officer Chuck Cangelosi, this generosity highlights the community’s dedication to ensuring Avita can meet local patient needs. The state-of-the-art facility features recognition for 24 key supporters including lead gifts from CareSource, The Community Foundation for Crawford County, Park National Bank, Richard & Janet Harer, and Dr. Joseph & Susan Shadeed.
