Avita Begins Construction on Comprehensive Cancer Center – Opening 2025

BUCYRUS/GALION/ONTARIO – Avita Health System announced that they recently began renovations on a $15 million, 22,000+ square foot comprehensive cancer center at Avita South Campus, located at 600 Richland Mall, Ontario, Ohio.

The Avita Comprehensive Cancer Center will feature a state-of-the-art TrueBeam linear accelerator offering the most precise and effective radiation therapy available. In addition, the facility will house a new PET/CT scanner, a machine that combines PET scan and CT scan to create detailed images of the body. The new scanner will allow specialists to detect cancer at its earliest stages, assess the extent of the disease, and plan and monitor the effectiveness of treatment. Along with this new technology, the cancer center will feature a medical oncology clinic, a radiation oncology clinic, 16 infusion bays, lab, and comprehensive pharmacy services, thus providing patients with seamless access to their care teams.

“This integrated approach ensures that patients receive coordinated care with all aspects of their treatment plan managed under one roof,” explained Jerome Morasko, President/CEO of Avita Health System. “We are very excited to be able to bring local comprehensive cancer services to the community so that patients do not have to travel long distances to receive the care they need. In addition, we will still continue to provide the same high-quality medical oncology services at Galion and Bucyrus Hospitals as we always have.”

“Adena Corporation, in Mansfield, has been selected as the design builder of our new cancer center while the GPD Group out of Akron, Ohio is the architect group working on the project,” explained Kim Winkle, Vice President of Operations at Avita Health System. “We are excited to be working again with these groups on another phase at our South Campus location. While we added many new jobs already at this location this past year, we expect to add yet another 30+ this year as we continue to grow our services at this facility.”

Avita’s comprehensive cancer center is slated to open late fall of 2025.
