Avita Expands Access to Advanced Cancer Treatments Close to Home
Ontario, OH – Avita Health System has expanded access to advanced cancer care with the addition of Pluvicto® radioligand therapy and bispecific antibody immunotherapy, providing innovative treatment options for patients closer to home.
The addition of these specialized therapies reflects Avita’s ongoing commitment to bringing sophisticated, personalized cancer care to the communities it serves. Patients who previously may have needed to travel to larger medical centers for certain advanced cancer therapies can now access innovative treatment options locally, allowing them to remain close to family and support systems while receiving highly specialized care.
Pluvicto (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) is an FDA-approved radioligand therapy for certain patients with advanced prostate cancer. The treatment combines a cancer-targeting molecule with a radioactive component, allowing it to seek out prostate cancer cells and deliver radiation directly to those cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. This targeted “seek-and-treat” approach represents an important advancement in treating eligible patients with metastatic prostate cancer.
Bispecific antibody immunotherapy is another innovative treatment option now available through Avita’s oncology program. This therapy helps direct the body’s immune system to identify and attack cancer cells and represents a significant advancement in cancer treatment for select patients.
“By introducing cutting-edge therapies like Pluvicto, a precision radioligand treatment for advanced prostate cancer, and advanced bispecific antibody immunotherapy, our program is redefining what is possible close to home,” said Dr. VanDeusen. “Behind these complex treatments is a highly specialized pharmacy team whose expertise is critical to safely managing and delivering these advanced regimens. This milestone is part of our wider, ongoing effort to expand comprehensive services, ensuring our community has access to the most sophisticated, personalized cancer care right here, surrounded by their families and support systems.”
“Avita’s continued investment in advanced cancer care helps ensure that patients have access to innovative treatment options close to home,” said Jerry Morasko, President and CEO of Avita Health System. “We are proud to bring these capabilities to our area and remain committed to meeting the growing healthcare needs of our region.”
Providing these therapies requires a highly coordinated multidisciplinary team that includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, nurses, medical physicists, dosimetrists, imaging specialists, and support staff working together to ensure safe, effective care. Avita’s integrated approach includes advanced imaging capabilities, treatment planning, patient education, symptom management, and ongoing follow-up care.
For patients being evaluated for Pluvicto, Avita offers access to PSMA PET imaging, which helps identify patients who may benefit from the therapy. The oncology team carefully reviews each case to ensure the most appropriate treatment plan for every patient.
The addition of Pluvicto and bispecific antibody immunotherapy builds upon Avita’s continued investment in oncology services and its mission to provide advanced cancer care close to home. As new therapies, technologies, and services become available, Avita remains committed to expanding treatment options so patients can receive exceptional cancer care without leaving the region.
