Inpatient Rehabilitation at Avita
Avita Inpatient Rehab is a 10-bed unit located on the second floor of Avita Galion Hospital. Patients are admitted to our rehabilitation program due to a recent decline in physical function and a need for at least two of our intense therapy services. The rehabilitation unit includes:
- Eight private rooms and one semi-private room with accessible bathrooms
- Therapeutic kitchen, laundry, and activity area
- Therapy gym
- Patient dining room
- Family and patient activity/private dining area
- Wheelchair accessible shower
Who is Admitted
Patients who suffer from a loss of function due to certain conditions, including but not limited to:
- Neurological Disorders
- Stroke, brain and spinal cancer rehabilitation, multiple sclerosis (MS), Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease, and other movement disorders
- Orthopedics
- Joint replacements, fractures, or trauma
- Amputation
- Cardiac and Pulmonary Conditions
- COVID, long-COVID, recovery from cardiac surgery, and acute exacerbations of chronic conditions (COPD, heart failure)
- Generalized Weakness and Deconditioning
Insurance Coverage
Avita Inpatient Rehab care is covered under Medicare for those who meet the admission requirements. Our Clinical Liaison Team can help determine if a patient’s diagnosis meets the insurance coverage requirements based on functional status and physical ability. A representative from Avita Galion Hospital can help to answer any questions about benefits and coverage prior to admission.

- Therapy services are provided at a minimum of 15 hours per week

- Medical Director with expertise in rehabilitation medicine
- Medical Director rounds daily and medically manages patients
- Nurses experienced in rehabilitation nursing
- Registered Nurses on-site 24/7
- Radiology and Laboratory services on-site 24/7
- Availability for specialty consultation (Neurology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Infectious Disease, etc.)
Admission Requirements
Prior to being admitted, one of our Clinical Liaisons will conduct a pre-screen to review the patient’s medical record and condition. The screening process will help determine if the acute inpatient rehabilitation stay is appropriate for the patient’s current need.
- The need for at least two rehabilitation services
- The ability to participate in at least 3 hours of therapy daily, 5-6 days a week
- Medically stable
- Reasonable expectation to return home post rehabilitation program
- Cognitively intact patient with the ability to participate in the program
- In selected cases, patient can be admitted from home
