More than 300 runners, walkers, volunteers, sponsors, and enthusiastic supporters gathered on Saturday, August 8, for Avita Health Foundation’s 16th Annual Moving Hearts & Soles 5K in partnership with Avita Home Health & Hospice.

Under clear skies and perfect racing conditions, participants enjoyed one of the most scenic courses, winding along neighborhood streets and circling back through the Galion City Schools campus before finishing a the newly dedicated Dr. James Kerbs Start/Finish Line. “In addition to starting the 5K following the passing of Dr. Theodore Ebner, for whom this run is memorialized, Dr. Kerbs has championed this 5k for 16 years, continued to honor the legacy of Dr. Ebner, and been an incredible supporter of scholarships, orthopedic care, and Avita Health Foundation,”  shared Chuck Cangelosi, Chief Development Officer of Avita Health Foundation. “For these reasons, we decided to honor Dr. Kerbs this year by naming the start/finish line in perpetuity.”

The overall race winner was Brandon Horn who clocked a time of 17.57:31. Casey Nickler finished in second place with a time of 19.0926. Makayla Halbisen was the top female performer finishing sixth overall with a time of 21.52:23.

Chuck Cangelosi praised the overwhelming community support, saying, “This race is one of the highlights of our year because it truly reflects the strength of our community and support from employees, sponsors, and volunteers. It is inspiring to see corporate partners running alongside healthcare professionals, trustees cheering on family members, and neighbors coming together to support a cause that impacts us all. The energy, generosity, and enthusiasm on display today were incredible.”
