Education

Avita's Education Department is responsible for staff, patient and community education. We offer community educational events and coordinate support groups in cancer, stroke, and diabetes. We put a large focus on educating healthcare professionals within our health system as well. Providers, nurses, and other professionals benefit from required certification courses and mandatory course offerings.

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP

1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Presented by the Galion Hospital Inpatient Rehab and Education Departments. Dedicated to the health and well-being of those who have experienced a stroke and the loved ones who care for them.
Free to the public, pre-registration is not required

The Stroke Support Group is dedicated to the health and well-being of those who have experienced a stroke and the loved ones who care for them.

Pre-registration is not required and refreshments are served. Galion Hospital is handicapped accessible.

2nd Monday of each month alternating between Bucyrus and Galion Hospitals

BREASTFEEDING CLASS

6:00-8:00 p.m.

This class is free and open to the public. You do not need to pre-register.
Galion Hospital Small Dining Room

Bring your partner, family, babysitter, or a friend and come learn the ins and outs of breastfeeding. Topics will include: What to expect in the first few weeks

  • Good attachment and positioning techniques
  • Common breastfeeding difficulties
  • Practical support by partner, family and friends
  • Your career and breastfeeding
  • Much more

Childbirthing Class

9:00AM to 1:00PM

Avita Health System Childbirthing Classes are held one Saturday a month in the lower level of Dr. Huggins' office. It is most beneficial to attend a class during your final trimester (after 28 weeks). Please bring your coach, a pillow and wear comfortable clothing. Light snacks will be provided.


Class fee is $45.00, Avita patient's fee will be billed to insurance, any uncovered amount will be added to office statement. Instructor: Patty Lust, RN (plust@avitahs.org)

Pregnant and Nursing Mom's Sprouts Learning Group

1:00PM to 2:00PM

Many new and soon-to-be new moms have questions about breastfeeding which include:

  • What to expect in the first few weeks and beyond
  • Common breastfeeding difficulties
  • Your career and breastfeeding

Join Deanna Grube, Certified Lactation Consultant, at Galion Hospital, the first Friday of each month for a “Sprouts” question and answer session about breastfeeding.

Galion meeting location
The session will be held in the basement meeting room at Dr. Tyler Huggins Office, 1200 State Route 598, Galion, right next to Galion Hospital Mammography Center.

Bucyrus meeting location
The session will be held at the Crawford County Health Department in the Conference Room

Cancer survivors and their support givers will share stories while listening to a different speaker each meeting giving insight on surviving cancer. We will also share tips on diet and exercise to help survivors remain strong and healthy.Jessica Hall, Registered Dietician, will be available at the first meeting to answer questions.Light refreshments will be served.
