Tobacco Use

Avita Health System recognizes that smoking is a serious health risk and formerly adopted a ‘Tobacco Free Environment’ policy.   We have a responsibility to our patients who have already quit smoking to not expose them to the triggers for smoking. We also have a responsibility to our patients who must abide by our Tobacco Free Environment Policy by not exposing them to even the smell of smoke that may be carried on our clothing or our breath.

As a result, an extension to Avita's ‘Tobacco Free Environment’ policy has been created. Avita is prohibiting employees, contract staff, students and volunteers from smoking during their working hours. Smoking will not be permitted at any time during a workday while working at an Avita facility or while in transit between work locations.

Smoking (including, but not limited to cigarettes, e-cigarettes, pipes, cigars) is not permitted during work hours.

Work hours include the entire duration of scheduled work hours or any time that work or business is being conducted on behalf of Avita Health System as an employee, contracted staff, student or volunteer.

  • Smoking cessation assistance and information are available from the Cardiac Rehab departments at both Galion Hospital and Bucyrus Hospital. This support will assist in dealing with the effects of withdrawal from nicotine addiction during working hours and personal time. Avita actively encourages and supports staff to quit smoking through various smoking cessation programs, which may include nicotine replacement therapy and other medications.
